CSX Rail

Curtis Bay Piers is strategically located on the CSX network and the Chesapeake Bay. It primarily handles coal from the Northern Appalachian coal region (NAPP). Last year, a project began to replace the conveyor frames in the five story coal silo. Approximately 100 tons of hot-dip galvanized steel were used in the replacement of conveyor frames and footing assemblies to aid in the movement of coal in Baltimore.

Replacement of the conveyor frames, catwalk systems, railings, structural steel and trusses, the Baltimore based coal terminal utilized hot-dip galvanizing as the finish of choice for both durability and corrosion protection. Sixty tons of steel were utilized in this project to create the conveyor frames and footing assemblies and 40 tons of steel were used in catwalk systems and trusses. This fast paced project began in December of last year and was completed this fall, aiding in the ability of the company to process over 14 million tons of coal annually.
