Nitschmann Middle School

It took four years to plan and build the new Nitchmann Middle School, the newest of four middle schools in the Bethlehem Area School District. Careful attention has been paid to construct a school that stands the test of time. The 180,000-square-foot school can hold 1,000 students. Like the old school, it fronts onto West Union Boulevard, tucked between Genoa Street and Route 378.

The five-story clock tower and brick-clad exterior pay homage to the old homes surrounding Nitschmann. At the rear, the four-story building features a more modern bank of windows, which flood classrooms with light, and a patio for students and staff to get outdoors. The district hopes the building qualifies for LEED platinum certification. The $53 million project stuck to its tight schedule. The steel fabrication was completed by Levan Associates - Emmaus, PA and the galvanizing was done by V&S Lebanon Galvanizing LLC - Jonestown, PA.
